Blazing a New Trail Veterans Program
Each veteran will have a specific horse selected for them according to their needs. Sessions begin with an introduction to their horse.
We encourage each rider to talk to their horse, as horses understand vocal tone and body language. Once the veteran puts his/her trust in the horse, the horse’s calming influence takes over and their bonding begins. The next steps are grooming, tacking and learning to ride. The Veteran is never rushed. The environments of both the private and the small group sessions are quiet and safe.
Veterans have found that connecting with horses can help reduce their PTSD, anxiety and depression. They begin to improve social skills, self-esteem, trust and personal relationships. The physically disabled Veterans improve not only core strength and balance, but also gross and fine motor skills.
Horses help both the physical and mental healing process.
