Blazing a New Trail Veterans Program
Veterans have found that connecting with horses can help reduce their PTSD, anxiety, and depression. They begin to improve social skills, self-esteem, trust, and personal relationships. The physically disabled Veterans improve not only core strength and balance but also gross and fine motor skills. Horses help both the physical and mental healing process.
About the Program
Each veteran who participates in our program will be paired with a specific horse based on their individual needs. Before the session begins, the rider will be introduced to their horse and encouraged to communicate with them. Horses are responsive to vocal tone and body language, so building trust and establishing a bond is important. The next steps involve grooming, tacking, and learning how to ride. Our veterans are never rushed and both private and small group sessions are conducted in a quiet and safe environment.

Benefits of Therapeutic Riding:
Animals often help people be more vulnerable, allowing veterans to understand themselves better.
Riding a horse engages multiple muscle groups that will continue to strengthen over time.
Riders experience a natural sense of calm as they feel the rocking motions of riding a horse, helping improve symptoms of PTSD.
Riders can improve their emotional awareness and relationships by seeing their own emotions reflected in the horses they ride.
